MOL: Romanian turnover up 24%

MOL’s Romanian turnover in H1 2007 amounted to some €255 million, which means that this year’s H1 turnover would be worth some €316.2 mln, against a backdrop of historically high oil prices. MOL Romania officials did not wish to provide H1 financial indicators. According to preliminary and unaudited results, the company claimed 12 percent of the Romanian market share in the first six months of 2008. In this same period, sales on the retail fuel market remained constant, in terms of volume, while average sales per station dropped 4 percent, even though the number of stations rose by five (H1 2008 compared to H1 2007).

As of 30 June, MOL owned 124 gas stations in Romania, after an investment of over €2 mln in 2 gas stations in Bucharest and the central Romanian city of Ludus, and company officials informed Business Standard that the company plans to open two more in the near future. MOL has budgeted €20 mln this year for investments in Romania.

In 2007, MOL Romania posted a doubling of net profit, to €12 mln, against a 1.7 percent increase in turnover, to €533 mln.

The company’s main competitors in the Romanian fuel distribution market are Petrom, Rompetrol and LukOil.
