“This is a time of uncertainties, and chances that strategies already planned will be applied are low. Recruiting managers from competitors is a sort of shortcut to success, because you take people who had a working business strategy,” according to the General Manager of cable TV, internet and landline phone service provider Digital Cable System, Dinu Malacopol.
He gave the example of former telecom operator RCS&RDS’ Chief Commercial Officer Ovidiu Ghiman, who was recruited by Romtelecom, the country’s incumbent landline service operator. “Romtelecom’s strategy was focused against RCS&RDS and, by recruiting Ovidiu Ghiman, Romtelecom is increasing its chances of success against its main competitor,” Malacopol said.
In the first quarter of 2009, the head of the country’s largest mobile service operator, Orange Romania, Richard Moat, made the surprising announcement that he is stepping down. IT service supplier Ness Technologies has recruited the former General Manager of Fujitsu Technology Solutions company, Dragos Nicolaescu. According to Malacopol, more such changes are possible in the near future.
