Mutual fund assets down by 9.2% in January

The mutual fund industry registered a 9.2 percent drop in January in terms of net assets, reaching some €234 million (RON 866 mln). Share funds were subject to the most significant drop, of 16 percent, compared to the end of 2007.
The assets of diversified funds also dropped 8 percent. By the end of 2007 net assets of mutual funds totaled RON 954 mln (€263.17 mln), 50.7 percent higher than in 2006, with the total value of assets reaching €1.13 billion.

Share funds dropped by some 16 percent in January, while the main stock indices lost over 20 percent, according to data from the National Union of the Organization for Collective Investments (UNOPC).
