Nestle Romania estimates 25 percent increase

“Except for the two categories where growth was not that strong, coffee and waffles, all products registered important growth in the first half of this year. The highest growth ratio was registered for baby products,” Nestle Romania’s General Manager, Paul Nuber, told Business Standard.

Earlier this year, the company was forecasting a 20-30 percent growth compared to the €150 million posted last year.

Nestle is operating on the local market since 1995 and owns a waffle production unit in the western city of Timisoara. In 2006, the company acquired Greek ice cream producer Delta Ice Cream, including its Romanian division. As of September 1, the company transferred its ice cream production from Romania to Bulgaria, because the local unit had no room for further expansion.

The company’s main competitors on the local market are Kraft Foods, Strauss, on the coffee segment, Masterfoods and Dr. Oetker, on the foodstuffs segment.

The total sweets market amounted to €241 million last year in Romania, 25 percent higher year-on-year, according to research company Nielsen.
