The new manager said that Rex requires a full and complex business restructuring process and that the first real targets she sets are for next year’s summer season. “We are focusing on preparing the next season and in order to do this we plan to restructure the business, so that, as of next year, we will be able to work with a real forecast,” Oude Vrielink told Business Standard.
“Compared to last year, when the hotel was fully occupied, this year a 100 percent occupancy rate is only registered on weekends. During the week, the hotel registers an occupancy rate no higher than 50 percent, considering that tariffs were cut by some 25 percent, to €300 from €400 per night,” the new manager said.
Rex’s General Manager said that her strategy will be applied in one year, two at most, and the first measure she will take will be to replace the management team. “I will change the entire management line, from the sales manager to the head chef. I have already brought in a new food&beverage director, who previously worked for Hilton. For the positions of sales and marketing managers I would rather recruit specialists that are very familiar with the local market, in [the city of] Constanţa [southeastern Romania],” Oude Vrielink added.
