New subway lines in Bucharest, worth EUR 2.4bn, to be ready in seven years

The line to connect Drumul Taberei to Pantelimon neighborhood will be built in two phases, the company said. There will be 13 stops from the city center to Drumul Taberei. Works will take seven years to complete and will cost about 570 million euros. The company announced it will purchase 21 trains for the line, so that a train would come every three minutes.

The other part of the line, connecting Universitate Square with Pantelimon neighbourhood, will also include 13 stops and cost about 828 million euros to build, Metrorex said.

The line linking Victoriei Square in the city center to the country’s largest airport Henri Coanda, just outside the city, will cost 1 billion euros and include 19 stops to be ready in seven years. About 500,000 Bucharest residents use the subway, daily, according to Metrorex statistics. Trains come every 8-10 minutes.
