“A local market rise would be a happy case this year, but I think we will see a decline in total revenues. The latest evolutions, losses and contractions announced by major players, bankruptcies in the industry, at the global level, and the psychological effect generated by these phenomena, correlated with the collapse of financing possibilities, will have a negative effect on the local market in 2009," Nistoran told Business Standard.
ANC’s President also put forward a solution to the current situation. “The key is to attract new clients,” especially for broadband internet services. The ARPU [Ed. n. Average Revenue per User] will register an obvious decline, which could be compensated by a focus of telecom players on new clients and services.” Nistoran added that operators can maintain their operating profit at last year’s level by cutting costs.
