“We are preparing the field, and want to skip stages, to go directly to ten channels on one frequency. The necessary investment for Romania’s territorial coverage in this system is very large, of hundreds of millions of euro,” said Nistoran.
Romania is one of the last countries in the European Union where the technology necessary for terrestrial digital television (DVB-T) is not yet implemented, considering that all EU members are obliged to implement digital television by 2012.
“The necessary infrastructure can be set up by many companies. Large media groups, such as Radicom, or some foreign enterprises can qualify for this. However, it should be an independent firm, to avoid conflicts,” Nistoran added. According to him, the maximum number of companies which should be in charge of the DVB-T infrastructure is three.
