“The start of our production in Romania was a fruitful one, and Nokia clients throughout Europe are pleased. We managed to recruit energetic and dedicated employees, and I am certain that the Cluj factory will become a model of performance in terms of quality products,” said the factory’s General Manager, John Guerry.
The factory started production on 11 February 2008, and has some 700 employees. Nokia estimates that the number of employees will reach 3,500 once the factory begins to function at full capacity.
Currently, the Cluj factory produces mobile phones for European markets. Nokia announced its intention to build a factory in Romania in March 2007. Construction began in July 2007 and the first stage was finalized in seven months. Work on the second phase is currently underway and Nokia estimates it will be completed by the end of this summer.
