Non-government credit up 5.2 percent in July

At end-July 2007, non-government credit advanced year on year by 46.0 percent (40.4 percent in real terms) on the back of the 42.8 percent growth in RON-denominated loans (37.3 percent in real terms) and the 49.7 percent rise in foreign currency-denominated loans expressed in RON (when expressed in euro, forex loans expanded by 67.1 percent).

Government credit (central government, local government and social security funds) dropped 3.7 percent to RON 8,080.9 million. At end-July 2007, government credit surged 232.0 percent, or 219.2 percent in real terms, from the same year-ago period.

Deposits of non-government resident customers edged up month on month by 3.4 percent, reaching RON 103,818.4 million.

RON-denominated household deposits advanced 3.9 percent to RON 37,161.0 million. At end-July 2007, household deposits in domestic currency climbed 51.2 percent (45.4 percent in real terms) from the same year-ago period.

RON-denominated corporate deposits (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) grew by 2.8 percent to RON 35,342.1 million. At end-July 2007, RON-denominated corporate deposits rose year on year by 22.7 percent (18.0 percent in real terms).

Forex-denominated deposits of resident households and corporates (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) increased by 3.4 percent to RON 31,315.3 million when expressed in domestic currency (when expressed in euro, they advanced 2.6 percent to EUR 9,915.5 million). In year-on-year comparison, residents' forex deposits expressed in euro expanded by 23.0 percent, household deposits in foreign exchange rose by 50.5 percent, while deposits in foreign exchange of corporates (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) went down 1.6 percent.
