Obama boosted Romanian TV station ratings
Realitatea TV invested over €100,000 to cover the event, sending three teams of nine journalists to the U.S. Its show was entitled “Alege America” [“America Votes”]. The 15 special editions broadcast on 4 November had an average rating of 0.8 percent of urban viewers (some 87,000) and a 3.6 percent market share. “Prime-time news reports were broadcast live from Washington, New York, and Los Angeles,” said Cristian Coman, Editor-in-Chief of Realitatea TV.

According to data provided by GfK Romania market research company, Antena 3 obtained a 1.1 percent average rating and a 4.3 percent market share on the all urban target. Its team covering the U.S. presidential election included some 50 individuals.

State TVR 1 television dedicated a special show to the U.S. election, called “Noaptea americana” [“American Night”], broadcast on Tuesday night, from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. According to GfK, the show registered an average rating of 0.3 percent and a 2.3 percent market share. However, this data is valid only for the commercial urban target (18-49 years). On the morning following the election, on 5 November, TVR 1 broadcast a show entitled “America a votat” [“America voted”] from 7:00 to 10:15 a.m., which registered a 0.3 percent average rating and a 3 percent market share for the same audience.
