Thus, according to the data, which is based on the exchange rate on the last day of 2008, of RON 3,9852/€1, nine companies posted net sales in excess of €1 billion, 18 enterprises registered business worth between €0.5-1 bln, and 215 firms reported net sales between €100-500 million. Only 267 companies registered net sales between €50-100 mln last year, while another 24,315 enterprises posted business worth €1-50 million. Of a total of some 650,000 officially registered companies, according to the latest available data, approximately 0.033 percent of the economy was made up of companies with net sales between €100-500 million last year when many industries peaked, unlike 2009, when 0.041 percent of companies had business amounting to €50-100 mln, and 3.7 percent of enterprises posted net sales ranging from €1-50 million.
According to MFP data, the companies that posted net sales exceeding €1 bln last year are Petrom, Rompetrol Rafinare, Dacia, ArcelorMittal Galaţi, Petrotel-LukOil, Vodafone, Orange, LukOil, and Rompetrol Dowsntream.
The Romanian economy is expected to decline by at least eight percent this year, according to the latest forecasts, due to the economic crisis.
