“Based on what we saw in the first quarter, the entire market registered an absolute decline, with worrisome feedback,” according to Cisco Romania General Manager for Romania and the Republic of Moldova, Bogdan Constantinescu. “Networks are now or becoming the core-business of telecom operators and banking systems. These are probably the main industries that are relying on such technologies at present,” he added.
One of the reasons why the local IT market dropped in the first quarter of 2009 is lack of access to financing, which led to very poor investments in IT infrastructure, equipment and applications.
“The government area desperately needs greater productivity by way of an implant of technology. In this area, investing in technology and networks would make sense, but so far it is not happening. Everything is delayed and, from my point of view, this is a market with growth potential and opportunities will come in the future,” he added.
