Operators want direct access to the networks of CFR and Transelectrica

CFR, Transelectrica, and Electrica currently have thousands of kilometers of optic fiber, a network developed for own communication needs, but which are presently transporting data below the full built capacity. CFR has a 4,200 km optic fiber network, in which the company invested over $60 million, while Transelectrica operates 9,000 km countrywide, that were built partially with €260 mln worth of loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). Electrica has 4,000 km of optic fiber.

“Transelectrica and CFR seek to sell data transport services, and we want national structure. We prefer CFR, because their fiber reaches train stations, and thus cities, from where we can take radio services directly to final users. Transelectrica, through Teletrans, stops at the outskirts of cities,” Radiocom’s General Manager, Gabriel Grecu, told Business Standard. According to the company official, the company plans to sign a contract with one of the two companies, to use unequipped optic fiber.
