Vodafone Romania, Orange’s main rival on the local market, ended the first fiscal quarter on 30 June with similar results, namely a 17.3 percent decline in revenues from services. “We are satisfied with the evolution of the number of clients in the second quarter and revenues whose quarterly drop rate has stabilized. Orange Romania’s revenues rose in Q2 compared to Q1, in spite of a still uncertain economic climate. We are determined to maintain this trend and attract new clients in the coming quarters,” the Chief Executive Officer of Orange Romania, Thierry Millet, said.
The operator registered revenues worth €531 mln in the first half of this year, down 15.4 percent year-on-year. At the end of the first six months, the company had some 10 million users, 2.6 percent more than in the corresponding period in 2008. In the second quarter of 2009, company officials say that the number of clients increased due to the new offers on the prepaid segment, the improvement of packages for business clients, and the introduction of exclusive online products. Vodafone also posted a rise in its client base in the April-June period, of 5.2 percent.
