Orange posted revenues worth €578 million in the first six months of 2007, increasing by 24 percent from H1 2006. Customers using broadband data transmissions rose to 481,000, from 430,000 registered at the end of March.

Orange's solid financial results are mainly due to its product and service development strategy for youth, as a distinct category, and business clients, according to company officials. Romania, together with Egypt, Senegal, and Jordan, is presently one of the most favorable environments for France Telecom's operations.

"We are very pleased with the financial performance we have achieved in the first six months of 2007. Orange Romania is market leader both in terms of customers and revenues," said Richard Moat, CEO Orange Romania, adding that broadband services had an upward trend due to continuous investments.

The France Telecom group posted revenue worth €25.9 billion in H1 2007, an annual 1.9 percent increase. According to the company's web site, 13 percent of the group's consolidated revenue was generated by emerging markets by the end of June 2007. In Western Europe, revenues remained constant, except in France, where these increased by 0.7 percent. The company's consolidated net income was €3.3 million, compared to €2.3 billion in H1 2006.

Orange Romania posted net sales of €1.083 billion by the end of 2006, up 25.6 percent year-on-year. Its main competitors on the domestic market are Vodafone, with 8.2 million customers by the end of June, Cosmote Romania, with 2 million users in April 2007, and Zapp, with 500,000 subscribers at the end of 2006.
