The company surpassed the 9 mln client threshold, with 9.310 mln clients by the end of September, a 24.2 percent annual increase, according to a document issued by the company on the basis of data published by France Telecom, owner of the Orange brand, and a world leader in telecommunication services.
Forecast. At the end of Q1 2007 company officials forecast that Orange Romania revenue would exceed €1.1 bln and 9 mln clients by year-end.
“I am confident that the fourth quarter will develop very well and we estimate €1.2 billion in revenue by the end of 2007,” said Richard Moat, CEO of Orange Romania.
The mobile phone operator registered an 18.8 percent increase in the number of clients in the first half of 2007, up to 8.572 mln, and attracted 738,000 new clients in Q3 2007. “A 700,000 client increase is the largest one-quarter rise registered by Orange Romania in 10 years of activity on the Romanian market,” said Moat.
The number of clients using mobile broadband reached 504,000 by the end of Q3, while that of clients using broadband technology for data transfer amounted to 481,000 by the end of Q2.
At the end of this year’s first nine months, the company’s 3G and 3G+ services were available in 42 large cities, covering 34.31 percent of the population and 2.42 percent of the country.
The Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) and Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution (EDGE) networks covered 81.28 percent of Romania’s territory by the end of last month, and 96.88 percent of the population.
Market. Orange’s main competitors on the Romanian market are Vodafone Romania, with 8.223 mln clients by the end of June, Cosmote Romania, with 2 mln users in April 2007, and Zapp, with 500,000 subscribers by the end of 2006.
France Telecom registered an annual 3.5 percent increase in revenue in Q3, up to €13.508 bln. The company’s consolidated revenue rose to €39.420 bln in the first nine months of 2007. The gross operating margin was €14.410 bln in the January-September period, 3 percent higher year-on-year, at €5.094 bln in Q3, a 4.3 percent increase year-on-year.
The local mobile phone market could reach €2.4 bln by the end of 2007. The mobile phone penetration rate was 90.5 percent by the end of H1 2007, and is expected to exceed 100 percent by year-end, according to Dan Georgescu, President of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology (ANRCTI).
