These measures were taken due to a massive drop in demand for personal computers, which led to a 50-60 percent decline in the volume of PCs assembled by CES in the first half of 2009.
“So far, the quantity ensured an ongoing flow of the factory, which had certain fixed costs. Some of these costs have been either reduced or eliminated, so that, from now on, there will be production periods, it can be two-three weeks per month, depending on orders, Altex’s Chairman, Ostahie, told Business Standard.
He said that following this restructuring process, the PC assembling costs fell to €3.5-5 from €8-10, depending on quantity.
Ostahie did not provide any details regarding the number of employees who left the company but sources close to the enterprise told Business Standard that the factory had some 100 employees last year.
