The airport plans to acquire “ambulift” equipment to board passengers with reduced mobility, estimated to cost some €200,000. Over €100,000 was invested last year to develop and modernize the airport. Traffic increased by some 1.5 million passengers in 2007.
Authorities have decided to build a 19 km railway line between the Gara de Nord train station in Bucharest and AIHCB, in order to fluidize traffic between the capital and its outlying airport. Romanian Railway Company (CFR) officials said the investment will exceed €250 mln. Work is due to be completed in two and a half years.
