The Minister of Transport, Radu Berceanu, declared after yesterday’s negotiations, that meetings will take place in the coming days between union leaders and the management of the three companies, in order to end collective work contracts and to settle on the steps to take.
“We have reached a first level of understanding. One measure is the laying off of 3,700 persons, who are old enough for retirement. Another is the reduction in bonuses in order to avoid laying off another 4,000 employees,” said Minister Berceanu.
The Chairman of the Federation of Railway Traffic/Trade, Gheorghe Popa, said for Business Standard that bonuses would be elimininated, and salaries frozen to the minimum RON 570 in 2009.
