Minister of Labor, Paul Pacuraru, announced Saturday that he appointed an Attache for social and labor issues to the Italian Embassy, following a declaration in May that the costs of such a position were unjustified due to the inexistence of labor or social problems.
“Preparations for the appointment of this Attache had begun prior to the outbreak of trouble in Italy, but I did not feel this to be an absolutely essential problem, also considering the expense this would involve, of some 50,000 euro,” said Păcuraru.
He went on to add that the subsequent evolution of the situation of Romanian workers in Italy determined the Ministry of Labor to rush through the appointment of this Attache.
The appointment of two Attaches for social and labor issues to the Embassies in Berlin and London was announced by the Ministry in May.
Although initially six proposals were made for Attaches in the cities of Athens, Lisbon, Milan, and Barcelona, Ministry representatives indicated that discussions with diplomats in these countries led to the conclusion that there was no justification for their appointment, as no work or social-related problems had been reported.
