PD-L-PSD announces its new ministers

Leaders of the Democratic Liberal Party and of the Social Democratic Party yesterday yesterday announced the individuals who will occupy the 20 main positions in the future government headed by Prime Minister designate Emil Boc.

Boc and Deputy Prime Minister Dan Nica will head a perfectly balanced team from a political point of view, bringing few surprises when it was made public.

Ten ministers have previous top government level experience, while the other ten are new.

Those who served as ministers before include Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu, who until recently was Mayor of Bucharest, Minister of Public Finance Gheorghe Pogea, Minister of Regional Development and Housing Vasile Blaga, Minister of Transportation Radu Berceanu, Minister of Agriculture Ilie Sarbu, and Minister of Labor Marian Sarbu.

But the list also contains new names, such as Minister of Tourism Elena Udrea, Minister of Defense Mihai Stanisoara, Minister of Health Ion Bazac, and Minister of the Environment Nicolae Nemirschi.

Half of the 20 new ministers have had experience in the business environment.

There is no balance in terms of gender, as the future government is dominated by 17 men and only 3 women.

The only name which Boc did not announce yesterday was that of the Minister of Justice, as an independent candidate is to be appointed by mutual decision of both parties.

The names of the new government were received cautiously by businesspeople interviewed by Business Standard, who made an effort to identify the qualities of the new ministers. Players on the economic stage say they are looking forward to seeing what will be the first measures applied by the new ministers.

“I have always said that there are two situations which can meet the needs of the tourism sector: to appoint a renowned professional to head the tourism industry or a charismatic political person,” said Paul Marasoiu, President of the Peacock Hotels consultancy company, refering to the most surprising appointment in the government - Elena Udrea, the new Minister of Tourism.

Yesterday, the two political parties also divvied up part of the positions in the Chamber of Deputies. PD-L will have the chairmanship of the Chamber’s Permanent Office and one deputy chairperson, while PSD will have two other deputy chairs and the National Liberal Party (PNL) a single one, according to participants in the negotiations, quoted by the NewsIn agency. The Chairperson of the Permanent Office of the Chamber of Deputies will be a Democrat Liberal, most likely Roberta Anastase.

Liberals have already announced that the former Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Bogdan Olteanu, will be nominated to head the Chamber, but his chances of becoming Deputy Chairman are higher.

PSD will also have one of the secretary positions of the Permanent Office, as will PNL. In the case of the Senate, it has already been agreed that PSD President Mircea Geoana will serve as Chairman.
