“The deal was made last week and the Germans currently own the entire Zaharul Oradea stock. The German company is thus consolidating its position in Eastern Europe, where it figures among major players,” sources close to the Western Romanian Oradea-based company told Business Standard. Zaharul Oradea has an annual turnover worth €50 million.
Pfeifer&Langen also owns two sugar producers based in the northwestern towns of Carei and Arad, but these units are currently under conservation. The two companies are part of the Cristal Diamant SAS company, with annual turnover worth some €900, owned by Cristal Union and Pfeifer&Langen, each with a 50 percent share.
The local sugar market is worth in excess of €250 million, with Agrana, Lemarco, Zaharul Corabia and Zaharul Oradea as main players.
