Piraeus Group strategy: focus on retail and leasing

“In the second stage we will develop the asset management and investment banking sectors,” Catalin Parvu (photo), General Manager of Piraeus Bank’s Retail Banking and Operations Division, told Business Standard.

“The retail segment will continue to grow even if our target for this year has already been surpassed, with the retail sector yielding 35 percent of total loans, compared to 18 percent at the beginning of the year. We will continue to improve the product portfolio, a process that began with the introduction of first year firm-interest rate mortgages being offered. Furthermore, the SME sector will be subject to rapid evolution by way of new products we plan to launch this autumn,” explained Parvu. Piraeus Bank Romania assets amounted to €1.9 billion at the end of H1, three times more year-on-year, in the context of an advancement of loans.

Greek bank Piraeus entered the Romanian market in 2000, by acquiring the main share package of Pater Credit Bank. In Romania, the group also owns Piraeus Leasing and brokerage company European Securities, a member of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
