“The labor force is a significant problem. I think many factors attract young people to other countries. We have a large wave of emigration,” said Pirelli Tyres Romania CEO, Enrico Malerba.
Pirelli provides trainings and other benefits to retain employees. Malerba said another problem is the current international situation, especially in Western Europe, where the market is stagnating. The Romanian factory works for exports, since local sales are insignificant.
Malerba added the tire market is increasing by 10 percent per year and Pirelli expects an increase on premium segment, where the company is operating. According to Pirelli estimates, the Romanian tire market could reach some two million units this year.
Pirelli Tyres Romania officials announced the company plans to produce some six million tires per year in the Romanian factory, as of in 2009. This year’s production is set to reach four million units. The factory in Romania started production in 2007, when it manufactured two million tires.
