PET deliveries increased 6.6 percent from January-November 2007, although glass bottles had the highest sales value, at 49.7 percent of total deliveries.

The internal beer market value is estimated to be worth €1 billion, and the most important competitors are international producers Heineken, Ursus, United Romanian Bereprod Breweries (URBB), and local producers European Foods, Bere Mures and Bermas Suceava. Local beer meets demand almost entirely, while imports make up a mere 1.5 percent of total sales.

Almost all competitors will invest in production, including Romaqua, producer of the Borsec brand mineral water, which will invest €31 million in a beer factory in Sebes, Alba County.

The only Romanian factories built from the ground up are URBB in Bucharest’s Pantelimon area, and that of European Foods.
