Agriculture Minister Dacian Ciolos met European Commissioner for Agriculture Mariann Fischer Boel to convince her that there is no need for such a clause.
In the coming days the European Commission will be studying a report developed by Deloitte and sent to Brussels on Saturday. Sources in Brussels indicated that the report makes reference to 20 problems with payment agencies.
According to these same sources, the Commission will not activate the clause, but rather monitor Romania.
A delegation is due in Romania at the end of January to check how payment agencies are work. Payments to farmers will probably begin in February, two months later than initially planned.
