Praktiker Romania’s sales rose 28%

Company officials said they expect this pace to slow in 2009, due to adjusting the development strategy to current market changes, caused by the global economic crisis. “Considering the current economic recession, which also affected the DIY sector, we are preparing for a temporary slowdown in our activities in Germany and abroad,” said Wolfgang Werner, Chairman of the Board of Praktiker Bau-und Heimwerkermarkte Holding.

In 2008, the Praktiker group registered its highest operating result in the company’s history, of €129.1 mln, 11.3 percent higher year-on-year. Total sales amounted to €3.907 bln, one percent less than the €3.945 bln record value posted in 2007.

Referring to the strategy for 2009, Werner said that “we must ensure the necessary liquidity, to be able to act efficiently in this time of crisis. This is also a condition so that we will be able to return to the fast development pace when the general economic situation rebounds, after this crisis.”
