The company plans to become the first integrated company in the Romanian energy sector, following an investment in the nuclear and thermal areas, said Carlo Tamburi, International Division Head.

ENEL entered the Romanian market five years ago, when it took over Electrica Banat and Electrica Dobrogea in a transaction worth some €112 million. In 2006 the Italian group won the auction to privatize Electrica Muntenia Sud for some €820 mln. The transaction is to be finalized next month.

ENEL is one of the six foreign companies that will participate in the project to build reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, an investment estimated to be worth €2.3 bln.
