Rompetrol Gas, the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) trade division of Rompetrol Group, controlled by the Kazakh state-owned KazMunaiGaz oil and gas company, recently acquired a majority stake in the MoldInterGaz Moldova LPG importer and distributor. “Rompetrol Gas is planning to develop LPG activities on the Republic of Moldova market, and to reach some 20 percent market share in the coming five years. MoldInterGaz claimed a 5 percent share for LPG distribution and 10 percent for imports at the end of last year,” said the company’s General Manager, Toma Veron, quoted in a Rompetrol press release.

Company officials have refused to comment on the value of the transaction.

The Moldova LPG markets amounts to some 55,000 tons, and could become a platform for expansion of distribution to countries on which the Rompetrol Group is now present in other segments.

Rompetrol Gas is forecasting turnover worth some $100 million in 2008, compared to $54 mln the year before, and plans to spend some $20 mln for investments.
