Restrictions for Romanians on the British labor market to remain in effect

The announcement was made by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, following a meeting yesterday in London with his Romanian counterpart, Calin Popescu Tariceanu.

This was Prime Minister Tariceanu’s first visit to the United Kingdom, during which he appealed for the elimination of restrictions for Romanian workers on the British labor market.  The Romanian Prime Minister indicated that current prohibitions do nothing more than encourage black market labor.  Nevertheless, Gordon Brown responded that restrictions will not be lifted very soon.

“We have already made a decision regarding access of Romanian and Bulgarian workers on the local labor market.  However, we should not fail to appreciate the way Romanian workers are involved in the development of Britain’s economy,” added Britain’s PM. (The Money Channel)
