The authorities requested the emergency release of one million doses of vaccine from four European approved producers, considering that the vaccine produced by the Cantacuzino Institute has not finalized tests on humans.
“If we do not get the vaccine, immunization will be carried out gradually, according to categories. If we do get the vaccine, we will change the working methodology to centres of infection. The worst thing is that we could be at the mercy of the virus and the cold for one and a half or two months, if we cannot get the necessary vaccine shots,” Adrian Streinu-Cercel, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, told Business Standard. According to him, Romania needs five million doses of the vaccine to immunize the active population.
The price for one million doses of the vaccine would normally not cost more than €6-7 mln but, given the massive demand internationally, the price could exceed €10 mln.
