Turkey took some 1.158 billion U.S. dollars, while Croatia’s loan ammounted to 522 million U.S. dollars. The sum lent to Romania is 1 percent of all loans, grants and capital investments given by the bank. Romania was among the countries that received the highest loans from the World Bank, along with Bulgaria, which got 345 million U.S. dollars.
In the fiscal year 2007, the World Bank lent more than 34 billion U.S. dollars to emerging countries, parts of the money going to fighting poverty and stimulating prosperity, according to the institution’s President, Robert B. Zoellick.
