Romania's energy sector could attract investments totaling €12-15 billion in the next three years, according to Finance and Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian.
"For reactors 3 and 4 of [the nuclear plant in the eastern town of] Cernavoda, initial estimates show a level of investments above €3 billion," he said. Furthermore, investments in existing power plants amount to €2-3 billion. Beside government projects, several major companies plan to build their own power plants.
Vosganian added the government is not rushing to privatize energy companies. "We are not interested to privatize large energy groups to strategic investors. We will have them listed on the stock exchange. Now, when energy becomes an economic zone with political impact, we want the state to remain dominant in these companies," Vosganian said.
