Romania is the fifth option of investors

China is the most interesting destination in the world for investors from developed countries, chosen by 23 percent of them, followed by India (six percent), and Brazil (five percent). Romania shares the fifth place with Hungary and Malaysia, with three percent.

On the other hand, developing countries investors are most interested in investing in the United States (27 percent), the United Kingdom (15 percent), and Hong Kong (10 percent).

According to the survey, the volume of transactions in the field of mergers&acquisitions (M&A) fell 38 percent in 2008 due to the financial crisis, as the highest level of such transactions at global level, of $3.771 billion (€2.67 bln at an exchange rate of €0.71/$1), was registered in 2007. However, the acquisition of companies on emerging market continued its upward trend and rose 29 percent in 2008. The M&A sector is expected to bounce back as of 2010, according to the authors of the study.

In Romania, the value of the M&A market plunged some 92 percent in the first months of this year compared to the corresponding period of 2008, to €200 million, while the average value on transaction was this year five times lower than in 2008, according to a report by Raiffeisen Investment.
