Romania is the world’s 68th freest economy in 2008, The Heritage Foundation says
The country’s economy is 61.5 percent free and enjoys a high level of business, fiscal and trade freedom, according to The Heritage Foundation.

Romania was outpaced by Hungary, which ranked 43rd, Albania (56th) and Bulgaria (59th). Yet, Romania outclassed Greece (80th), Poland (83rd) or Russia (134th).

The Heritage Foundation says Romania’s top economic challenges are labor freedom, property rights and corruption. The think tank noted Romania’s financial system complies with international standards especially as it was enhanced by reforms and privatization programs.

A total of 157 countries were included in the study.
