Diaconescu announced last week that Romania informed the European Commission about the serious infringement of European agreements committed by the Republic of Moldova, after the Moldovan government reintroduced visas for Romanian citizens.
“We believe that the introduction of visas is a reckless act, which shows the huge gap between statements made by the authorities in Chisinau and their real willingness to act in a European spirit,” Diaconescu added.
The Minister’s actions were supported yesterday by the National-Liberal Party deputies in the European Parliament (EP), who decided to support a resolution regarding the situation in Moldova.
Euro-parliamentarian Ramona Manescu told Business Standard that the President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), Graham Watson, will lobby for an EP resolution on Moldova which has generated a wave of concerns in Brussels, against a backdrop of “abuse by Chisinau authorities and repeated violations of human rights.”
