Romania receives orders for arms worth $3 bln in one month

“Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, these orders cannot be honored, and Romania thus misses out on an opportunity for significant exports. We are speaking of countries who were traditional partners in the past in this area. The fact that we received orders last month in excess of $3 billion is proof that these countries did not import Romanian military technology only due to their good relations with Ceaucescu. Those with whom we did business in the past are still coming to us,” according to an exclusive declaration for Business Standard by Aurel Cazacu, Director of the Defense Production Department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Market sources indicated that countries in question include Libya and Egypt, with whom Romania had cordial relations prior to 1989.

There is great demand for light armored transporters, infantry armaments and ammunition, optical equipment, and cooperation in aviation.
