“We are 99 percent certain that we are dealing with the first case of swine flu in Romania. Epidemiologically, there is no need for additional measures, apart from those involving family members and people she came in contact with. There is no need for concern,” said Bazac.
The swine flu virus was identified at the Cantacuzino Institute, and the evidence was sent for confirmation to a specialized laboratory in London. Final results will arrive within 72 hours. The patient’s father and her two children, aged three and one, were also hospitalized for investigation.
The 30-year old Romanian woman travelled on an Air France flight with 93 other passengers, and came in contact with a further 40 people since Saturday by the time she went to the hospital. According to officials of the Ministry of Health, as of Tuesday night, these people are being checked to identify possible contamination. The disease appears about seven days after infection with the H1N1 virus. The woman was released yesterday afternoon from “Matei Bals” hospital, considering that she is responding well to the treatment.
