UMB Spedition, one of the builders of the Moara Vlasiei-Ploiesti section of the Bucharest-Brasov highway is owed some RON 200 million (about €47 mln) by the National Company of Roads and Highways in Romania (CNADNR) and county councils, for construction, repair, and maintenance work, while the company’s debts to the fiscal administration amount to some RON 180 mln (€42 mln).
Umbrarescu said that CNADNR’s unpaid bills are two years old.
“Yes, my accounts have been blocked since 10 November. You can say that the asphalt kings also have problems,” said the businessman, who fears that if he does not foot the bill, creditors could request that his company be declared insolvent. A CNADNR report indicates that the road network administrator has paid part of its outstanding debt to constructors in the first three months of this year. UMB Spedition received RON 77.7 mln (about 18 mln), for the unpaid 2008 invoices.
