Romania's central bank collects from banks EUR 140.6m in the form of deposits

The money were collected from three banks, according to the chief dealer of Banca Transilvania, Ioan Birle. Towards the end of last week, BNR temporarily stopped the sterilization operations concerning the excessive liquidity.

BNR started on January 7 sterilization operations, these taking place on a daily basis. On January 21 this year BNR attracted some 2.16 billion lei from the 13 banks which took part within a two-week deposit tender.

The interest stood at 8 percent per year. The inter-banking interests stood bellow the monetary policy interest, of 8 percent.
