Richard Matalon, General Country Manager of L’Oreal Romania, said yesterday that the domestic market’s growth pace in 2008 was higher than that of countries in the region.
“Although the beauty market is declining in some European countries, Romania is a new market, where the growth trend will also be maintained in the current context, if professionals in the field are more visible in the media and succeed in making themselves known to the consumer target,” explained Matalon.
Make-up products registered the highest increase on the market, of 25 percent, while cosmetics and hair dyes rose by 13 percent each.
Tanya Chernova, one of the best-known international trainers on this market, said that players in the beauty industry should seize the opportunities provided by the crisis. “In times of crisis, people no longer have money to invest in expensive products, such as real estate, automobiles and other extremely costly products, so they will invest more in less costly products to make themselves feel good. These include products in the beauty industry, which will be popular, because with a continuously fresh and cared for look people will feel better and this is what they need in times of crisis,” Chernova explained.
