Romania's economy up 5.6% in Q2, below estimations

The country’s GDP reached 86.75 billion lei (26.43 billion euros) in the second quarter of the year. However, Romania’s economic growth slackened in the second quarter against the first, when GDP went up 6 percent, standing at 68.5 billion lei.

The 5.6 percent growth in Q2 GDP is the lowest recorded in the last 18 months. Analysts previously told NewsIn that economic growth should stand somewhere between 5.6 percent and 7.1 percent against the same period last year.

GDP in the first six months of the year amounted to 155.2 billion lei, up 5.8 percent against the first quarter of 2006. Romania's estimated GDP for 2006 stood at 342.4 billion lei in real terms, a 7.7 percent increase from the previous year.
