Romania's government forbids early retirements starting June 1, according to accord inked with EU
The memorandum foresees “to freeze early retirements starting June 1 and until the new law to reform the pension system enters into force.”

“The new pensions of invalidity will be granted only if they were previously approved by the medical evaluation teams within the Labor Ministry,” the document shows.

Also, the letter includes drastic measures to cut spendings, like slashing the salaries of public employees by 25 percent starting June 1 and pensions or unemployment aids by 15 percent, but also rationalizing the number of employees in the public sector in the following months.

The government will also eliminate the 13th salary in 2010 and will complete measures to get sure the salary fund in 2011 will not exceed 39 billion lei.
