This is the highest net half-year profit ever reported by the bank, and the main contribution in growth came from an increase in income from interest.
“BCR’s performance in the first semester was sustained by Romania’s economic growth, exceeding analyst expectations, and confirms profit prognoses for the bank this year and next. Romania’s economic growth this year will be at least 7 percent, considering the prognosis for good agricultural production, and we anticipate a 6 percent advance for next year,” according to a declaration yesterday in Vienna by Andreas Treichl, President of Erste Bank.
BCR’s contribution to majority shareholder Erste Bank rose 24.2 percent in H1 2008, compared to 17.9 percent in the first six months last year.
