The leu climbed on opening from 4.1950 to 4.1830 against the euro, then the exchange rate rose to 4.1880 lei per euro and floated around that level. At 10:30 a.m. banks bought the euro with 4.1863 lei and sold it for 4.1972 lei.
“The leu appears to have stabilized after the exchange rate lowered on opening. The leu's climb lately is owed to the upcoming loan from the IMF,” declared for NewsIn Ciprian Mihai, chief of department at the Volksbank Romania treasury.
In the region, the Polish zloty appreciated from 4.3970 to 4.3780 versus the euro, then went further up to 4.34. The Hungarian forint lost ground from 285.8 to 287 units per euro.
On international markets, the U.S. currency waved within a short range, falling initially from 1.3275 to 1.3350 against the euro, but then strengthened back to around 1.33. At 10:30 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.3310 dollars.
