Romania's leu rises to 3.6250 against the euro, after the monetary policy interest grew to 9%

Banks sold 1 euro for 3.6740 lei this morning. The leu climbed to 3.6050 lei per euro. The national currency slipped in the afternoon and stood at 3.6250-3.63 lei per euro at 6:12 p.m.

BNR collected two-week deposits of 4.6 billion lei today, with an annual interest of 9 percent.

The U.S. dollar was traded from 1.4792 to 1.4850 U.S. dollars per euro on the international markets, while at 6:12 p.m. Romania's hour, the euro stood at 1.4815 U.S. dollars.

The interbank interest rates for overnight deposits exceeded the monetary policy rate of 9 percent per year.
