Romania's leu stays close to 3.71 against the euro yesterday following temporary hike

The leu strengthened today from 3.7115 to 3.6985 against the euro during the morning, in line with other currencies in the region. After 10 a.m. the leu started to lose ground and dropped to more than 3.71 lei per euro  in the afternoon. At 4:35 p.m. banks bought the euro with 3.7102 lei and sold it with 3.7198 lei.

The exchange rate posted today by the central bank showed a 0.2 percent hike to 3.7104 lei per euro and a 0.32 percent drop to 2.3842 lei per U.S. dollar.

On international markets the U.S. dollar rose to 1.56 against the euro. At 4:35 p.m., Romania's hour, the euro stood at 1.5601 U.S. dollars.

Interbank interest rates for overnight deposits remained around 9.4 – 9.9 percent per year.
