The leu grew from 3.7180 to 3.7040 against the euro at the first transactions today and then came back to 3.7155. After 1 p.m. the leu started hiking again. At 5:10 p.m. banks bought the euro with 3.7055 lei and sold it for 3.7135 lei.
The exchange rate posted today by the central bank shows a 0.38 percent hike to 3.7180 against the euro and a 0.26 percent climb to 2.3765 against the U.S. dollar.
On international markets the U.S. dollar climbed to 1.5535 against the euro then lost ground. At 5:10 p.m., Romania's hour it stood at 1.5626 against the euro.
Interest rates for overnight deposits stood at 9.44 percent per year.
