Romania's leu ups to 3.6050 versus the euro, following better-than-expected results of GDP

Romania's GDP stood at 86.745 billion lei in the first quarter of the year, up 8.2 percent against the same period last year, beating analysts’ estimates of 7.4 percent, according to the country's statistics body (INS).

The leu climbed from 3.6228 to 3.5960 lei per euro this morning. At 4:40 p.m., banks bought the euro with 3.6035 lei and sold it for 3.6080 lei.

On international markets, the U.S. dollar increased from 1.5568 to 1.5491 versus the euro. At 4:40 p.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.5505 U.S. dollars. I

nterbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 9.5 – 10 percent per year, close to the monetary policy rate of 9.75 percent.
